Festa del Redentore

In the previous post we discovered the origin of Redentore and now it’s time for more information about the events during the “Notte dei foghi” (“Night of fires).

Events on Saturday evening

At 7pm the Votive Bridge (Ponte Votivo) is opened and inside Redentore Church there is a special religious ceremony. Around this time the canals begin to be filled by boats that make their way to take their places on Giudecca Canal where, around 11.30pm, there is a big event: the firework display.
The show takes place over the water in St. Mark’s basin in front of Redentore Church and lasts around half an hour.

Best places to watch the firework show from are the Giudecca, Riva degli Schiavoni, Riva dei Sette Martiri e Punta della Dogana

After that, some people goes to parties (especially in Lido) others pack up towards their own homes. Venice alleys will be full of people and a buses and trains very crowded.

Events on Sunday afternoon

At 4pm Regate del Redentore (Regatta of the Redeemer) along Giudecca canal and at 7pm a Votive Mass will be held at the Chiesa del Redentore on the island of Giudecca.
